The SSC GD (General Duty) Constable exam is conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) for recruiting constables in various Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) like BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP, SSB, and also for roles in Assam Rifles and SSF.

The SSC GD Constable exam recruits candidates for constable positions in CAPFs, SSF, and Assam Rifles through a computer-based test, physical efficiency test, and medical examination. It assesses candidates’ reasoning, general knowledge, and fitness for the role.

Eligibility and Qualification Criteria

  • Nationality: Indian citizen or a citizen of Nepal/Bhutan.
  • Age Limit:
    • 18 to 23 years as of the application deadline (age relaxation for SC/ST, OBC, and other categories as per government norms).
  • Educational Qualification: Candidates must have passed Matriculation (10th grade) or equivalent from a recognized board.

SSC GD Exam Pattern

  • The SSC GD Exam has four stages:

    • Computer-Based Examination (CBE)
    • Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
    • Physical Standard Test (PST)
    • Medical Examination

    a. Computer-Based Examination (CBE)

    • This is an objective test with multiple-choice questions.
    • Total Marks: 160
    • Duration: 60 minutes
    • Sections:
      • General Intelligence and Reasoning: 20 questions, 40 marks
      • General Knowledge and General Awareness: 20 questions, 40 marks
      • Elementary Mathematics: 20 questions, 40 marks
      • English/Hindi: 20 questions, 40 marks
    • Negative Marking: Generally, there is no negative marking for incorrect answers, but always check the latest notification for any updates.

    b. Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

    • Male Candidates: Required to complete a 5 km race in 24 minutes.
    • Female Candidates: Required to complete a 1.6 km race in 8.5 minutes.
    • This stage may vary slightly depending on the forces, and height relaxations apply to candidates from particular regions.

    c. Physical Standard Test (PST)

    • Height and Chest Measurements: Standards vary slightly based on gender and specific categories or region (e.g., for candidates from hilly areas).
    • Male Candidates: Minimum height of 170 cm (relaxation for certain categories).
    • Female Candidates: Minimum height of 157 cm (relaxation for certain categories).
    • Chest (Only for Male Candidates): Expansion of at least 5 cm is required.

    d. Medical Examination

    • Candidates who qualify for the PET/PST undergo a thorough medical examination.
    • Visual Acuity: Candidates should have a minimum distant vision of 6/6 and 6/9 in both eyes without glasses.
    • Health Standards: Candidates must be free from physical defects and diseases.

Syllabus

General Intelligence & Reasoning:

      • Topics include analogies, similarities and differences, spatial visualization, spatial orientation, problem-solving, analysis, judgment, decision-making, visual memory, etc.
    • General Knowledge & General Awareness:
      • Includes questions on India’s history, culture, geography, general policy, scientific research, and current affairs.
    • Elementary Mathematics:
      • Covers topics such as number systems, computation of whole numbers, decimals, fractions, relationships between numbers, fundamental arithmetical operations, percentages, ratios, etc.
    • English/Hindi:
      • For English, topics include comprehension, grammar, synonyms, antonyms, sentence structure, and vocabulary.
      • For Hindi, grammar, comprehension, and vocabulary are covered.

Application Process

  • Online Application: Candidates need to apply online through the official SSC website.
  • Application Fee: Generally around ₹100 (exemptions for SC/ST, women, and ex-servicemen).
